Where did everybody go?

Project Type

Comic/ Graphic Novel

Date

October - January 2025

This project was completed in my final year studying graphic communication design at Central Saint Martins.

The comic follows the main character, Gibson the dog, as he navigates life in a world where all humans have suddenly disappeared.

Gibson is a loyal, yet anxious dog who struggles to cope with the disappearance of his family. On anexcursion to his owner’s workplace he meets Silver the fox who is ecstatic about the disappearance of humans. Silver takes in Gibson and his sister Missy, helping them get through the day without their owner. Gibson feels apprehensive of Silver, influenced by his owner’s distrust of foxes. However, Silver isn’t sly or cunning; he simply just wants company and is a good friend to Gibson and Missy as he goes on an adventure to look for their owner.

The comic concludes with a heartfelt conversation between Gibson
and Silver, reflecting on the contrasting ways humans treat them
despite their many similarities. This dialogue aims to educate
children on prejudice in an accessible way. People’s preconceived
judgements towards Silver have made his life hard, which is a
huge contrast to Gibson’s experiences, as he is seen as a valuable
part of society. The comic aims to reinforce the idea that no one
is inherently bad and that showing others grace and patience is
essential.

The comic’s target audience is primarily children ranging from
ages 7 to 12; however, the book also appeals to adults through
its deeper, more philosophical undertones.
